Pricing

What this typically costs

Ballpark pricing for Proxmox VE design, deployment, migration, and managed services. Real quotes are always scoped against your specific environment.

Every engagement is quoted individually because no two environments are the same — but the ballpark ranges below are a fair starting point. Discovery calls are always free, and we'll give you a written quote before you commit to anything.

Project engagements

One-off project work. Fixed-scope quotes; engineering time billed against agreed milestones.

Assessment

A$2k–8k

Environment review, options analysis, and a written recommendation. Usually 1–3 weeks of senior engineer time. Often credited against a follow-on deployment or migration project.

Design & deployment

A$15k–80k

Greenfield Proxmox VE cluster — architecture, build, integration with your storage / networking, documentation, knowledge transfer. Range covers small (3-node) through mid-size (10+ node) clusters.

VMware → Proxmox migration

A$15k–150k+

Assessment, target architecture, environment build, batched VM conversion, cutover, and validation. Range scales with VM count, network complexity, and downtime tolerance. Larger MSP-scale migrations sit above this band.

Managed services

Ongoing operations for Proxmox environments — monitoring, patching, backup verification, capacity planning, incident response. Monthly subscription, scaled to environment size.

Essentials

from A$1.5k/mo

Monitoring, monthly patching, backup verification, business-hours incident response. Suited to small clusters with stable workloads.

Standard

from A$3k/mo

Everything in Essentials plus quarterly capacity reviews, security advisories, change management, and faster response targets.

Premium

from A$6k/mo

Larger or multi-tenant environments — extended-hours coverage, dedicated engineering hours per month, embedded architecture work.

Subscriptions & licensing

Proxmox VE and Proxmox Backup Server are open-source and can be run without subscriptions. Production environments should run on subscriptions for access to the enterprise repository and upstream support. We resell at the same Proxmox list pricing, with Australian support layered on top.

  • Proxmox VE subscription — per CPU socket, per year. Community through Premium tiers. Typical range A$500–1,200 per socket per year depending on tier.
  • Proxmox Backup Server subscription — per PBS instance, per year. Typically A$500–800 per instance per year.
  • Proxmox Mail Gateway subscription — per gateway, per year.

Use the Proxmox vs VMware cost calculator to model the licensing side of a migration for your specific environment.

What's not included

  • Hardware — we don't sell or markup hardware. We'll size and recommend it; you procure through your preferred vendor.
  • Public cloud / SaaS fees passed through to you (e.g. M365, Azure egress).
  • Third-party software the project depends on (commercial backup tooling, monitoring platforms).

A note on cheap quotes

If the numbers above feel high compared to a cheaper quote you've received, ask the other party two questions: who is doing the work, and what happens if it breaks at 2 AM. Most infrastructure project budgets are wrecked by junior staff billed at senior rates, or by hidden "additional scope" clauses that surface mid-project. Our quotes are scoped against named deliverables with senior engineers attached.

Book a discovery call. We'll ask enough questions to scope your engagement properly and come back with a written quote — no obligation, no SDR follow-up loop.
